The Veteran Services Division of Leon County counsels and
assists veterans and their dependents with processing benefit claims
entitled to them through the United States Department of Veterans’
Affairs and other agencies.

Veteran Pension and Survivors Spouse Benefit Forms
In order for a veteran or surviving spouse to be eligible for the
Veterans Pension or Surviving Spouse Pension, the veteran would need to fit into the
following categories:

Served at least 90 days of active military service
-
1 day of which was during a wartime period
-
Was discharged under other than dishonorable conditions
-
Meet the countable income that's a yearly limit set by law
Before the application process can be started, please see the below
attachment. These forms should be filled out to the best of your ability and knowledge before
contacting the Veteran Service Officer. After completing these documents, please call to set up
an appointment with Jan Carey, Veteran Service Officer for Leon County, to start the application
process.

Leon County Veteran Services Statistics In 2010, the Leon County Veteran Services Division conducted more than 1,900 interviews with veterans and dependents and handled more than 13,000 phone and e-mail contacts.
In Fiscal Year 2011, veterans in Leon County number 18,475 and they continue to have a major financial impact here. VA revenue for Leon County veterans and their dependents totaled over $67 million.
Additionally, as the result of new claims, Leon County veterans and their dependents
received an average of $92,510 per month in retroactive payments and $33,766 per month in
awards during the last year.
